If you already have patches without adhesive, you can buy heat-seal sheets or iron-on adhesive film. Cut the adhesive to size, press it onto the back of your patch, and then apply it to clothing as normal. Keep in mind it may not be as strong as patches manufactured with heat backing built in.

Do iron-on patches fall off in the wash?
